GNU variants

GNU variants（GNU 變種）是一個自由軟件基金會提出的概念，指使用来自GNU的應用軟件及函式庫（即“用户态”）的操作系统。它的內核不一定是GNU Hurd。.^[1][2]

Linux 變種

GNU/Linux一詞是GNU计划支持者对由GNU用戶態和GNU系統軟件搭配Linux內核构成的操作系統的称呼。其中一个著名的例子是Debian GNU/Linux。

FreeBSD 變種

Debian GNU/kFreeBSD 是一个基于Debian 软件包管理系统和FreeBSD核心的GNU发行版。 kFreeBSD 中的k是 kernel of的缩写 ^[3]，说明事实上只用到完整的FreeBSD的核心。目前没有官方的版本发布，但在2010年8月冻结的Debian Squeeze (6.0)^[4] 预期于2010年发布，旨在支持Debian GNU/kFreeBSD. 一种 Debian GNU/kFreeBSD 的live CD是 Ging.^[5]
