Az amerikai hanglemezgyártók szövetsége, a Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) rendszeresen közzéteszi az Amerikában legnagyobb példányban értékesített albumok toplistáját. Az eladási számok nem szerepelnek, mivel csak egyes albumok platina minősítéseit regisztrálják. Egyszeres platina minősítés egymillió eladott példányt jelent. A dupla albumoknál minden egyes eladott hanghordozó egynek számít, tehát például egy egymillió példányban értékesített dupla album dupla platina minősítést kap.
